Event Navigation
Botswana’s Okavango Delta is the planet’s largest inland water system, where southern Africa’s rivers converge with the Kalahari Desert to create a lush mosaic of flooded marshes, sand bars and dry savanna. Lately, however, the landscape has taken on an uncommon appearance, as extreme drought has put the delta at record-low water levels.During this virtual safari, Nat Hab Hall of Fame Expedition Leader Simon Stobbs show us the astounding result of this shift, driven by climate change. Witness abundant wildlife concentrating around waterholes as flood levels fluctuate. Wildlife behavior is evolving, changing the movements of leopard, lion, wild dog, hyena, cheetah, giraffe, elephant, wildebeest and buffalo. Dry routes are creating incredible access by 4×4 as we seek out game that’s occupying rich grasslands that would ordinarily be under water. In fact, large herds of zebra have been recorded on the Jao Flats for the first time since 2012. Take in Botswana’s drama from the perspective of our recent small-group safari, based at intimate luxury camps that assure a genuine wilderness experience and coveted close-up wildlife sightings.
