Brought to you by Travel Research Online. TAP is Portugal’s leading airline and has been a member of the global airline Star Alliance since 2005. Flying since 1945, the 74-year old TAP today finds itself in the top 10 global airlines in terms of growth.

The airline has been breaking its enplanement records, boarding more than 16 million passengers last year, as it expands it’s network and adds new aircraft to its fleet.

TAP is the launch carrier for the brand new Airbus A330-900neo and will have 22 of the jets by the end of 2019. TAP has an order for a further 49 aircraft to be delivered in the coming few years. By 2020, it’s long-haul fleet will either have been replaced with new aircraft or newly reconfigured aircraft.

Since JetBlue founder David Neeleman’s Atlantic Gateway consortium acquired almost half of the airline in 2015, the carrier has added new service from New York’s JFK, Boston Logan and Toronto Pearon. This year, in June, TAP will add service to Lisbon from Chicago O’Hare, San Francisco and Washington-Dulles. Additional frequencies between Newark and Porto are also to be added in June.

The airline’s Portugal Stopover program allows guests to enjoy up to 5 nights in Lisbon or Porto en route to 70+ destinations across Europe and Africa for no extra airfare. Some 50% of American passengers now fly TAP beyond Lisbon to other parts of Europe and Africa.

TAP’s network comprises some 84 destinations in 34 countries worldwide. The airline currently operates around 2,500 weekly flights.

TAP is one of Europe’s most awarded airlines. Global Traveler (USA) has named TAP as Best Airline in Europe from 2011 to 2018.
